Student representatives play a vital role in shaping decisions at Griffith. You’ll bring student perspectives to the table and help build a positive, inclusive university community.
These roles give you the opportunity to contribute to discussions and decisions that shape the student experience at Griffith.
You’ll be able to apply for appointed and elected positions on University committees, as well as nominate for elected roles through our student associations. These are often promoted at the same time, so you can explore all opportunities in one place.
Expressions of interest and nominations will open in August 2026.
In the meantime, explore the information below to learn more and get ready to apply.
Selection process
The recruitment process for committee vacancies is usually held between August and October each year. Each committee may have different requirements around the number and type of students they are looking for and these will be outlined in current vacancies.
Types of positions
Appointed positions follow an Expression of Interest process. Your application will be reviewed by the Committee Chair (or their delegate) and they may contact you for an informal discussion, should they need further information to assess your application.
When reviewing your application, they will assess:
- if you are currently enrolled and eligible
- if you are in good academic standing
- whether you have any current or previous conduct concerns
- your genuine interest in contributing as a student voice on the committee
Some positions have additional criteria. For example, you may need to be studying within a specific academic group, at a certain level of study or be from a specific cohort (such as an being International student or a First Nations student).
Elected positions are filled through a nomination and voting process. The Returning Officer will call for nominations, then provide details of the voting process and timelines once nominations close.
Voting is conducted via e-ballot and successful candidates are appointed for a set Term of Office.Â
Current vacancies
The next round of Student Representative opportunities will open in August 2026.
If you’re thinking about becoming a student representative, now is a great time to prepare. You might want to think about the areas of the student experience you’re passionate about, reflect on what you’d like to improve or influence and consider how you would represent other students.
You don’t need prior experience, just an interest in contributing and sharing your perspective.
