Copyright and your research project
Whether you're a Griffith staff researcher or an HDR student, it's essential to ensure your research project complies with copyright requirements from the outset.
Research projects often involve publicly displaying, publishing or sharing materials with members of the public. These projects often require permissions or licences when using, adapting or mining copyright materials others have created such as:
- questionnaires
- datasets—including for data mining projects
- content and data from social media
- images
- video material
- computer programs
- text—including for text mining projects
- AI generated materials
- creative projects
- music.
Projects may need adjustments to meet copyright compliance. Sometimes they will not be viable. It’s better to discover this at the beginning rather than mid-stream. For assistance in reviewing your research project for copyright compliance, contact the Copyright and Information Policy Officer.
