Research Survey and Data Collection Tools
Survey Tools allow researchers to create, develop, and distribute online surveys to participants.
There are three data collection and survey tools available to anyone with an active Griffith account. Each platform has it's own unique features and differences but all of them allow you to create and distribute surveys to participants. The available platforms are:
Each platform has been approved at Griffith for research data collection, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
At-a-Glance Platform Comparison
The platforms each have their own features that make them unique and depending on your project you may find that one platform works better for you. Below is information on the different features. If you're unsure which option is best for you, you can get help by contacting the eResearch Support Team.

Survey Platforms Access and Learning
Qualtrics Core XM is a web-based survey tool enabling you to build surveys, feedback and polls using a variety of distribution means. Results can easily be analysed, downloaded and viewed in reports to inform your research. It has a user-friendly interface, allows for very complex logics and offers an array of question types you don't find in other survey tools. Qualtrics is centrally funded and available free-of-charge for Griffith staff and students.
The Griffith instance is hosted in an Australian data centre and meets requirements for Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data capture. Please be aware, Qualtrics is not a data repository. Research data should be stored in a manner appropriate to its classification.
Accessing Qualtrics

REDCap is a secure, web-based application designed to support data capture for research studies, particularly in clinical and academic settings. It is well suited for projects involving sensitive or identifiable data and supports features such as longitudinal data collection, repeat instruments, and audit trails. REDCap focuses on structured data entry rather than survey presentation, making it ideal for research teams managing ongoing studies or complex datasets.
The Griffith REDCap instance is hosted at Griffith in a secure environment and is designed to meet strict data protection and compliance requirements. While REDCap includes basic reporting and export tools, it is primarily intended for collecting and managing research data rather than advanced visual survey design or visual reporting.
