Not quite ready to start studying? You may be eligible to defer your offer.
If you received an offer from Griffith University but would like to delay your start date, you may be eligible to defer for up to 12 months. Here you can find out if you're eligible and how to apply.
If you have already completed study in your program, you will need to request a leave of absence.
All requests for deferment must be submitted prior to 11:59pm on the census date of your original commencement term.
Applying for deferral
How you apply for deferral depends on the type of student you are and how you applied for your program. Follow our prompts to follow the application process that's right for you.
Already deferred and want to request a change?
When you defer, your start at Griffith will automatically be postponed to the same trimester the following year (12 months).
If you would like to start sooner and have checked if an earlier intake exists for your program, submit your request to deferred@griffith.edu.au.
Check your programs details in the Degree Finder to see if there is an intake available prior to submitting your request.
If you require more than the maximum 12-month deferral period, we recommend that you request a voluntary early withdrawal and apply for readmission when you are ready to start your studies. Program exclusions may apply. See readmission for more details.
If you have deferred your start in a competitive program and are still not ready to commence after your 12-month deferral period, you will need to withdraw and reapply for admission for a future intake. Check your program's details in the Degree Finder.
