    Academic Payment Plan (APP)

    An Academic Payment Plan (APP) allows an eligible student to pay their tuition fees, in equal monthly instalments, over a period of time.

    Eligibility

    You can apply for an Academic Payment Plan (APP) if you fall into one of the following categories:

    • an international fee-paying student (not in your first trimester at Griffith)
    • a domestic fee-paying student who is not eligible for FEE-HELP (including non-award students)
    • a student who is charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) but is not eligible to defer the fee to a SA-HELP loan.

    Fees and charges not covered by an APP:

    • tuition fees for Commonwealth supported students
    • library charges
    • accommodation
    • penalty charges
    • Overseas Health Cover (OSHC)
    • computing or other services.

    Conditions

    You may be approved for an APP if you meet the following conditions:

    • you can demonstrate unexpected/severe financial hardship
    • you do not have any outstanding charges (including OSHC) from a previous trimester
    • you can demonstrate the ability to pay the instalments by the approved due dates
    • your tuition fees must total more than $500 for the trimester, except in the case of APPs for the SSAF.

    International students may seek assistance from an International Student Advisor to discuss an APP before applying.

    International students who receive financial aid (student loan) from their home country should contact the International Finance Office to apply for a tuition fee extension.

    Instalment amounts and due dates

    If you are approved for an APP, you must pay your trimester fees by the approved instalment due dates. These will be displayed on your myGriffith Finances page and your Academic Charges Account. Your first instalment will be due the first day after census date. Your final instalment will be due no later than the last day of the trimester.

    Your instalment amounts will be based on your account balance at the time of your application.

    You may choose to pay your instalments earlier than the agreed due dates if you are able to do so. However, if you fail to make payment of your instalments, penalties may apply including:

    • a block on future enrolment
    • a block on the release of results
    • cancellation of your enrolment.

    Liability for tuition fees

    You will remain liable for your tuition fees and the administrative charge if you choose to drop your courses, discontinue your program, or apply for a leave of absence, after the census date.

    Student Dept Management Procedure

    Lodgement

    APP applications should be lodged online prior to the trimester census date. You must provide supporting documents that clearly demonstrate exceptional financial circumstances and your ability to pay your APP instalments.

    Supporting documents for exceptional financial circumstances include:

    • hospital or medical receipts or certificates
    • statements from police or insurance companies
    • receipts or invoices of unexpected expenses
    • evidence of financial hardship from the parent or sponsor paying your fees (for example, a failed business or agricultural income).

    Supporting documents demonstrating your ability to pay your APP instalments include:

    • statements from your bank or financial institution
    • four weeks of payslips from you, a parent or sponsor
    • statements from your parent or sponsor showing they can pay your fees.

    Submitting an application does not guarantee that an APP will be granted. Once your application is assessed, you will be notified of the outcome via your Griffith student email account.

    • an international student (not in your first trimester at Griffith)
    • a domestic fee-paying student (including non-award students) who is not eligible for FEE-HELP
    • a student being charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), who is not eligible for SA-HELP.

    Please note that Commonwealth supported students cannot apply for an APP for their student contribution charges.
