    Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University International Travel Bursary—Orchestral Strings

    This bursary supports a Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU) to travel overseas to further their study of orchestral stringed instruments.

    The prize is valued at $2,500. The donor is the Madeleine Olive Taylor Estate.

    Applications close on Friday 26 September 2026 at 4pm.

    Please note that there is no competition for this award. Assessment is based on information supplied in your supporting documentation only.

    • Open to students wishing to travel overseas to further their study at postgraduate level at an approved school of music, university or institution, for tuition with an approved specific teacher or workshop, or to assist in attending an audition to secure such a place.

    • Applicants must be a current Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University postgraduate student or a recent Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University alumnus who graduated no more than three years ago.

    • Applicants must have received a letter of offer from the overseas organisation confirming a place has been offered, or an audition has been granted.

    • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 5.0.

    Applicants must submit a written application by the closing date. Late applications will not be accepted.

    The application will include information about:

    • which orchestral stringed instrument is played

    • the tuition offered overseas and why it offers more than can be provided in Australia

    • your GPA score (a minimum GPA of 5.0 is required)

    • your career aspirations

    • other sources of income.

    The application also requires answers to the following questions:

    • Are you a recent alumnus of Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University having graduated in the past three years?

    • Have you been a previous recipient of this bursary?

    • Have you ever won another prize, award, scholarship or bursary?

    • Do you have an offer from an overseas organisation to study? If yes, please provide a copy of the Letter of Offer and provide information about the tuition, such as name of organisation and coach, dates, location, cost, structure of course.

    • What is the deadline for responding to the overseas offer?

    • How will this course help you advance your skills / career?

    • What difference will this bursary make to you being able to accept this offer?

    • Is there a similar course being offered in Australia?

    • If yes, please explain why this is different.

    • Do you have any other form of income?

    • If yes, please estimate annual income.

    The decision will be based on benefit and need.

    One Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University lecturer or industry representative (with a knowledge of all stringed instruments but with no conflict of interest), the Executive Manager, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and an alumnus will constitute the selection panel.

    References will be sought from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University lecturers for the shortlist if one is required.
