Basil Jones Sonata Prize
This annual prize is awarded to a Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University student duo judged to have performed, in competition, the best sonata for stringed instrument and piano.
The prize is approximately $500 to be split equally between winning musicians.
Applications close on Friday 14 August 2026 at 4pm.
To be eligible, Queensland Conservatorium student duos must comprise either:
violin and piano
viola and piano
cello and piano
double bass and piano.
All competitors are required to play a sonata of their own choice.
Judges are to be appointed by the director.
No judge may be the teacher of a student who is competing.
