Dress for all academic occasions
Official Griffith University academic dress is worn by students graduating at a ceremony and staff attending graduation ceremonies, in accordance with the Academic Dress Procedure. Graduates can also request to hire academic dress, but only after your degree has been awarded.
Academic dress for graduates
Gown: Fully sleeved, three-quarter length gown in red cloth, open at the front. The gown features full sleeve lining in black satin and is faced with 10cm of black satin.
Hood: Red Cambridge hood lined and edged in black satin.
Cap: Black velvet tudor bonnet trimmed with matching red braid.

Gown: Fully sleeved, three-quarter length gown in black cloth, open at the front. The gown features full sleeve lining in red satin and is faced with 10cm of red satin.
Hood: Black Cambridge hood lined and edged in red satin.

Academic dress for Council Members and Officers of the University
Gown: Fully sleeved, three-quarter length robe in black cloth, closed at the front. The robe is faced with white satin and finished with 10mm silver braid.
Cap: Black mortarboard or black tudor bonnet.
Gown: Fully sleeved, three-quarter length robe in black cloth, closed at the front. The gown features red corded silk front facings, edged with 40mm silver oak-leaf lace with gold piping. Sleeve openings are finished with 15mm silver oak-leaf lace.
Cap: Black mortarboard with silver oak-leaf trim around the crown and a silver tassel.
Gown: Fully sleeved, three-quarter length robe in black cloth, closed at the front. The robe is faced with red satin and finished with 10mm silver braid.
Cap: Black mortarboard or black tudor bonnet.
Ordering
Graduating students can hire or purchase official Griffith University academic dress when you complete the online ceremony registration process. For details about when registration and academic dress ordering opens, visit the Graduation website.

Conditions of hire
- Students may not hire, purchase or be photographed in academic dress prior to your conferral date.
- Academic dress must be returned within one hour after the conclusion of your ceremony. Failure to return and check in hired outfits will result in a fine of full sale cost.
- A dry cleaning fee will be levied for garments that are soiled or marked
- Refund requests will be considered if made more than three hours before the ceremony. A $6.50 (GST inclusive) administration fee will be levied.
- A full refund will be issued to students deemed ineligible to graduate if you were Conditionally Approved at the time of registering/ordering.
- No refund will be paid when cancellations are made less than three hours prior to the ceremony.
Staff requests
Staff attending a graduation ceremony as a member of the stage party will be able to request academic dress when you register to attend. Registration usually opens in Week 12 or 13 of Trimester 1 for midyear ceremonies and in Week 12 or 13 of Trimester 2 for end-of-year ceremonies.
Staff requests to organise academic dress for events other than the University's graduation ceremonies must first be discussed with the Graduation Office. Silver Rose will only provide staff with academic dress for non-graduation ceremony events following approval from the Graduation Office.
