Answer
The emergency number in Australia is 000.
This number connects you to Police, Fire or Ambulance services.
Calls to this number are free and can be made from any fixed or mobile phone.
You should call this number if:
- someone is seriously injured or in need of medical attention
- your life or property is being threatened
- you have just witnessed a serious crime or accident
There are also two secondary (free) emergency service numbers in Australia:
- 112, which can only be dialled from a digital mobile phone. It does not require a SIM card and will connect to any service provider, but phone coverage must be available. It may also work in countries outside of Australia to connect you to their Emergency Services
- 106 is for people who have a hearing or speech impairment and will connect you to a text-based relay service
