    Health and safety at work

    Our role is to provide a harmonised approach to health, safety, wellbeing (HSW) and injury management to Griffith and its staff.

    This includes: 

    • setting the direction and policy for HSW across Griffith
    • ensuring a consistent approach to the management of HSW
    • providing advice and support for our clients on general health and safety matters in specialist areas such as bio safety, chemicals, radiation, rehabilitation and injury management
    • providing specialist support and advice for regulated areas such as bio safety, bio security and radiation
    • managing early intervention programs and coordinating staff wellbeing initiatives and programs to provide support to staff with injury, illness or disability including management of the staff counselling program.

    Responsibilities

    All members of the Griffith community have responsibilities and accountabilities for the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others.

    The Safety Management System Framework provides an overview of the Safety Management System (SMS) used to manage health, safety and wellbeing across Griffith.

    University Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee

    ​The University Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee has the prime responsibility for overseeing the University's safety management system. The main focus of the Committee is on strategic issues and health and safety decisions affecting the University as a whole.
