Griffith celebrates members of our community who are part of the LGBTQIA+ rainbow. As our understanding of identities grows and evolves, so does our language. Griffith now also uses the terminology "people of diverse genders, bodies and sexualities" (DGBS) to reflect this.
Griffith is committed to providing an inclusive environment for DGBS students and staff. We are a member of Pride in Diversity and have a Pride committee and Ally Network to drive our strategies.
About our Griffith Pride Crossing
Griffith’s Progress Pride Flag crossing and stairs was implemented across campuses in June 2021 as a visible sign of our commitment to creating an inclusive environment for people of diverse gender, bodies and sexualities (DGBS/LGBTQIA+).
AWEI and SAGE Award recognition
In July 2023, Griffith was recognised for its achievements in reducing barriers for DGBS/LGBTQIA+ people with a Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Cygnet Award.
In 2024 and 2025, Griffith was recognised as a Gold Tier Employer in the Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards.
