In 2025, the event brought together leading experts in AI and research, starting with a keynote by Adj/Prof. Brent Richards on the evolving role of AI in healthcare and innovation. Participants then engaged in a hands-on workshop led by Prof. Stefanie Feih and Adj/Prof. Richards, exploring AI tools like GitHub Copilot to boost research productivity.
Wei Shen provided insights into Griffith's AI resources, while XENON Systems showcased cutting-edge AI hardware. Presentations by Prof. Shirui Pan and Dr. Ming Jin delved into AI’s potential beyond text and images, offering new approaches to analyzing complex data.
Dr. Bo Du explored emerging mobility technologies like automated vehicles and drones, highlighting their impact on transportation. The event concluded with a panel discussion on the future of AI in research, leaving attendees with valuable knowledge and practical tools to drive innovation.
The 2024 AI in Research Symposium at Griffith University marked the inaugural event hosted by eResearch, bringing together leading researchers, professionals, and external experts to explore the transformative role of AI in research. The symposium kicked off with a keynote by Professor Andrea Bishop, Pro Vice Chancellor Research, who highlighted how AI is driving breakthroughs through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Presentations followed from experts like Professor Alan Wee-Chung Liew, Professor Johnson Mak, and Dr. César Herrera Acosta, covering topics ranging from AI in medical diagnostics to AI tools for enhancing research productivity and ecological informatics. The morning also featured a networking tea sponsored by Antares Solutions.
The event concluded with a panel discussion featuring distinguished speakers such as Dr. Tom Verhelst, Jacky Hung, and Katie Ford, who shared insights on the future of AI in research.
As Griffith University’s very first event hosted by eResearch, the symposium was a huge success, bringing together people from all over to explore the power of AI in research.
