What can we help you find?

Computing training and support for researchers

Find the right training and resources for a variety of computing technologies to empower your research.

The eResearch team and its external partners are dedicated to empowering researchers and Higher Degree Research students (HDRs) with the knowledge and resources needed to harness the full potential of cutting-edge computing technologies.

Explore a comprehensive array of workshops, tutorials, self-help materials, and direct support offered to help with your specific needs.

Whether you're looking to master the High-Performance Computer (HPC), plot data with a wide range of visualisation options, or learn a new computational skill, there will be options for you. If you do not see a resource you require, please reach out to us for further support.

    Workshops and training organisations

At Griffith, workshops are organised by the Research Education and Development (RED) team.

RED conduct researcher development programs and activities throughout the year in collaboration with its partners such as eResearch and QCIF.

The programs are a combination of online and face-to-face workshops, seminars, and presentations.

Visit the RED Resource Hub to find the appropriate workshops for you.

The Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation (QCIF) is a non-profit organisation that provides cutting-edge digital infrastructure capabilities for research and innovation across Queensland and Australia.

QCIF draws funding from it's partnered members and their workshops are free to any staff, researcher, or HDR candidate at Griffith. QCIF hold workshops for the following categories:

    • Programming
    • High Performance Computing
    • Bioinformatics Analysis
    • Data Processing and Statistics
    • Surveys and Data Management
    • Visualisation and Research Communication

Only Griffith staff have access to Microsoft's Enterprise Skills Initiative.  You can sign in using your Griffith email address and can select learning paths for many of the Microsoft products.

It's a great resource if you're looking to sharpen your technical skills or increasing your knowledge of Microsoft solutions.

The O’Reilly for Higher Education online database is now available in the Griffith Library collection. The covered topics include programming, IT networking, project management, graphic design, and business strategy.

Most QCIF workshops are delivered using content from The Carpentries, an open-source and non-profit researcher skills development collective. In particular, Software Carpentry, a sub-branch of The Carpentries, offer self-paced learning if you aren't able to attend one of the QCIF or RED workshops. There are many lessons available, including:

    • The Unix Shell
    • Plotting and Programming in Python
    • Programming with R
    • Any many more...

    Looking for a specific topic?

If you're looking for training materials on a specific topic and can't find it, you can request help from our eResearch support team.

If the resources you need aren't available through Griffith or our partners, we'll try our best to find relevant options for you.

QCIF (Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation) holds regular HPC workshops. It's recommended for any researcher who intends to use a HPC cluster. Look for the relevant HPC course on the QCIF workshop calendar.

You can also check our HPC Workshop guide in GitHub and go through it at your own pace.

Note: An HPC account is required to complete either workshop. You can request an account and learn more about HPC on our High performance computing webpage.

Python workshops are held by Griffith and QCIF. Check the workshop calendars below to see upcoming Python workshops:
